Mink fur pieces – The alliance of luxury and
technicality

Mink is one of the most prized furs. Its hair
are dense, shiny and light, the touch is silky. It is a must-have in a wardrobe just like the little black dress.

It leaves a lot of freedom for creation.

Its wide range of colors from white to black, in
ranging from violet, sapphire and brown, can be easily waxed, shaved, knitted, dyed, mixed with other very different materials like snakeskin water, cashmere, fabrics, sheepskin or other furs.

Origin of mink

There are two types of mink, the most well-known of which comes from Denmark and Finland. The other species, called "Blackglama," comes from the USA and Canada.
Blackglama is a short-haired mink with very dense, silky down that gives it a velvety appearance.

We also distinguish between male and female mink. The female mink, smaller, is silky and light, while the male fur, larger in size, is characterized by more voluminous hair. We mainly use female mink.

How to care for your mink jacket or coat?

Invest in a luxury fur piece, such
that one mink jacket or a real fur coat, requires suitable maintenance to preserve the beauty and longevity of the material. The mink, that it is shavedfull skin, long hair Or knitted, remains a noble, living natural material, which deserves regular care.

Here are some essential tips:

  • Avoid excessive humidity: if your fur is wet, let it dry naturally in the open air, away from any direct heat source.
  • Store it in a ventilated place, away from light and heat. Prefer a cotton cover rather than plastic to allow the matter of breathing.
  • Never perfume the fur directly, alcohols can damage the hair.
  • Have your mink cleaned by aspecialist approved, ideally once a year. Professional cleaning helps preserve the natural shine of the coat and nourish the inner skin.
  • Avoid repeated rubbing (belt, handbag over the shoulder), which could wear out the fur over the long term.

With these simple gestures, your mink fur
will retain its suppleness, shine and density season after season. At Yves Salomon, we also offer a Cold storage, available in store or on request.
