Iconics | Women's Shearling Coats & Jackets

Yves Salomon is a French luxury house specializing in fur
and shearling since 1920. Our women's shearling coats and jackets are crafted from hand-selected Merino, Merinillo, Lacon and Toscana lambskin, combining natural insulation with a sculptural, Parisian silhouette. Each piece reflects four generations of artisanal expertise and a closely controlled production
process — from hide selection to final finish.

A Century of French Shearling Expertise

Since 1920, Maison Yves Salomon has mastered the art of
shearling — a craft refined across four generations of artisans in France. Each women's shearling coat begins with hand-selected lambskin, chosen for its density, softness and natural sheen. The result is outerwear designed to remain relevant for years: an investment piece rather than a seasonal purchase.

The Yves Salomon Shearling — Material & Construction

Genuine shearling is a single material: the leather hide and
wool fleece, tanned together and never separated. This natural construction creates a microclimate that adapts to body temperature, offering warmth without weight and breathability that synthetic alternatives cannot replicate.

Our collection works with four sheepskin varieties, each
suited to a different silhouette:

  • Merino — thick, substantial skin with small, dense curls. Exceptional warmth, ideal for structured coats built for harsh winters.
  • Merinillo — from younger lambs, with smaller, less dense curls and a lighter, more supple leather. Warm yet lightweight.
  • Lacon— used exclusively in its ironed finish. The thinnest and most supple of the four, perfect for tailored, transitional silhouettes with a fluid drape.
  • Toscana — long, wavy wool with a relaxed curl for a bold, textured look. Heavier than Lacon, with strong visual impact; can also be shaved for a different finish.

Some designs are fully reversible — wool-side in for warmth,
leather-side out for a sleeker silhouette.

Shearling Coat Models: Long, Hooded & Brown Options

Our women's shearling coats combine exceptional warmth with
sophisticated elegance. The long shearling coat creates a dramatic silhouette perfect for formal events, while our hooded designs offer practical protection with refined style. Brown shearling options provide a rich, natural aesthetic that pairs beautifully with both casual and elevated wardrobes.

Leather shearling jackets offer refined elegance with exceptional insulation, while our shearling bomber jackets make a statement through their craftsmanship and versatility. Available in camel and black, each bomber moves easily from everyday wear to special occasions.

How to Recognize Genuine Shearling

Recognizing real shearling matters when investing in a
luxury garment. Genuine shearling feels soft and supple, unlike synthetic materials, which tend to feel plastic or stiff.

The leather side has a slightly matte, natural texture, while synthetic versions often look artificially shiny. Authentic shearling is naturally dense and heavier, providing superior insulation. The wool fibers are irregular in length and firmly attached to the hide, and seams are precise with regular stitching. Genuine shearling also carries a subtle natural leather scent.

Why a Hooded Merino Shearling Coat Is the Warmest Choice

A hooded shearling coat in Merino represents the warmest
option in the collection. Merino's dense curls create multiple air pockets that trap body heat while letting moisture escape. The hood protects the head and neck — areas where significant heat is lost — and reinforced seams prevent cold air from penetrating. Merino's natural elasticity allows easy movement while maintaining a structured silhouette, making it well suited to extreme winter conditions.

How to Care for a Reversible Women's Shearling

For regular maintenance, gently brush with a soft-bristled
brush in the direction of the wool to remove surface dust. For minor stains, dab lightly with a barely damp cloth — never rub.

Shearling is sensitive to moisture: protect it from rain and
never use direct heat for drying. Between seasons, store on wide padded hangers in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. For reversible pieces, alternate which side faces out during storage to preserve both surfaces.

For deep cleaning, Yves Salomon Customer Service offers
professional care expertise — particularly useful before summer storage.
Shearling requires specialized cleaning methods that preserve both wool and leather, ensuring your piece remains in excellent condition for years.

FAQ: Women's Shearling Coats

Are shearling coats in style in 2026?

Shearling coats remain a winter essential, with Yves Salomon's collection featuring both classic silhouettes and contemporary interpretations. Our designs combine French craftsmanship with modern luxury, designed to stay relevant beyond seasonal trends.

Are shearling coats worth the investment?

A well-made shearling coat is built to last for years. Yves Salomon coats are crafted from premium materials with close attention to detail, helping them maintain their appearance and performance over time. Their warmth, construction and durability are central to their long-term value.

Are sheepskin and shearling the same thing?

Not quite. Shearling comes specifically from young lambs shorn only once, while sheepskin is the broader category. Yves Salomon selects only the finest hides and treats them through a proprietary process to achieve a soft texture and exceptional warmth.

What is the difference between Merino, Merinillo, Lacon and Toscana shearling?

Merino has thick skin and dense curls for maximum warmth. Merinillo, from younger lambs, is lighter with smaller curls. Lacon, used only in its ironed finish, is the thinnest and most supple. Toscana has long, wavy wool for a bold, textured look. Each suits a different silhouette, from structured coats to fluid, tailored pieces.

Which coat is the warmest for women in winter?

Shearling coats offer natural insulation while remaining breathable, thanks to the wool fibers still attached to the hide. For extreme cold, Merino shearling — with its dense curls — provides the most substantial warmth while keeping a refined silhouette.
